SÍM Residency - Meeting local artists series: Bryndís Snæbjörnsdóttir and Mark Wilson

As a result of receiving a grant to SÍM Residency from the Nordic Culture Point (NCP) for the Nordic-Baltic Mobility programme, a series of meetings and lectures will be taking place that is open for everybody to join! This is a part of a granted residency program that will happen via a shared live dialog to exchange knowledge, share artistic practices, build a network and embrace future collaborations.

The SÍM Residency invites all to come and meet local artists and 2022 Icelandic Visual Arts Award winners, Bryndís Snæbjörnsdóttir and Mark Wilson on Wednesday 11th January, at 3PM in the SÍM meeting hall at Korpúlfsstaðir, Thorsvegur 1, 112 Reykjavík. In the wider context of their 20-year collaborative practice, they will discuss the project and exhibition Visitations, for which last year, they won the national award.

Bryndís Snæbjörnsdóttir and Mark Wilson is a collaborative art partnership. Their interdisciplinary art practice explores issues of history, culture and environment in relation to both humans and non-human species. Working in close consultation with experts and people with passion about these fields, their work tests cultural constructs and tropes, human behaviour in respect of ecologies, extinction, conservation and the environment. The underpinning issues of their work are psychological and physical displacement, realignment regards the land and environment, the effect of these positions on cultural perspectives.

The Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for culture strengthens artistic and cultural co-operation in the Nordic region and Baltic states. The program focus is on increasing the exchange of knowledge, contacts, interests and bringing art closer to people.

Due to the limited list of participants, please book your participation via email – residency@sim.is

The event is accessible for wheelchair users and provided with refreshments.
