Gallery Gudmundsdottir: LAST SEASON - Anna Júlía Friðbjörnsdóttir

We warmly welcome you to the opening of the exhibition

by Anna Júlía Fridbjörnsdóttir
on September 15th, this coming Thursday,
between 17:00 – 21:00
at Gallery Gudmundsdottir
Joachimstr. 17, 10119 Berlin

The work of Anna Júlía Fridbjörnsdóttir employs various mediums and materials to examine contemporary environmental concerns through a poetic perspective, imaginatively reconciling anthropogenic-based perception systems within wider ecological and cosmic dimensions. In the exhibition “Last Season”, Fridbjörnsdóttir invokes diverse notions of time, creating a concrete dialogue between the cyclical time of the earth and the all too human quest to position ourselves vis-à-vis natural and cosmic cycles. Taking cues from fashion, Friðbjörnsdóttir playfully invokes its own seasonal nature as a strategy to grasp the immeasurable distance between our anthropogenic models of time and the greater patterns of ecological and cosmic processes. Her sculptures of digitally reproduced bones of endangered and extinct species reference elements of ancient navigational and timekeeping tools, juxtaposing the hand made and technological processes.

Fridbjörnsdóttir is an artist based in Reykjavík and Berlin. She combines drawings, sculptures and installations to explore the intersection between science and culture informed by historical and current politics. Interested in orientation and communication and man’s inability to connect to his environment and nature are reoccurring ideas in her work. Her works seek to merge local histories and the politics of places with broader historical perspectives and layered references from multiple sources.
