SIM Gallery: Diagraphein - to mark out by line - Aleksi Jaakkola

Diagraphein - to mark out by line / Exhibition / Aleksi Jaakkola / 11.3 - 31.3

A simplified picturesque landscape with the mountainous horizon line, soft, blurry, hiding the signs of everyday life. Barren and broken, no location. It is an object - it is a line.

DIAGRAPHEIN – "to mark out by line” is a presentation of the investigation where a horizon line is a motif for the creation of new topographies.

The principal images where the horizon lines are extracted are snapshots taken from a road trip in Iceland in 2018. In the process, the visible line between sky and land is fragmented and constructed for new scapes.
The horizon line is replicated and drawn multiple times using the line drawing technique together with silica gel experiments. Hence, the liminal spaces are filled creating new topographies and complexity emerging again.

The exhibition consists of photographs, ink pen line drawings and silica gel paintings.
