This December, the Rolling Snowball will once again find its way back to its roots at the Chinese European Art Center in Xiamen. At the same time, in collaboration with the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Guangzhou, we will launch an open call for artists participation to the public. Through the power of "rolling" momentum, we hope to extend an open invitation to friends dedicated to cross-cultural practices between China and the Netherlands, and to collectively advance this ongoing dialogue.

Based upon the 2024 exhibition theme, Under Construction, this exhibition aims to explore how we can recalibrate our perceptual scales in the face of an unstable reality. Using the fluidity of individual environments and daily experiences as entry points, we seek to navigate the paths of chaos, traversing the gaps where habitual orders collapse and new creative potential emerges. In this in-between space of uncertainty and incompleteness, we hope to reveal a state where the disintegration of order becomes a fertile ground for creativity.

OPEN CALL

1. Artwork Format:
All media are welcome, including painting, installation, performance, video, sound, text, and other diverse forms of expression.
2. Submission Materials:
a) A personal resume (including previous exhibition experiences).
b) A portfolio (images and descriptions of 6 representative works).
c) A preliminary creative framework and statement for the proposed work.
3. Submission Deadline:
August 1, 2025.
4. Support Details:
Selected artists will receive support for the partical realization of their work and the opportunity to exhibit it. Specific details will be discussed and confirmed in the final selection.
5. Exhibition Location:
Xiamen.

The Rolling Snowball Project is initiated and organized by CEAC. Since 2010, CEAC has organized a series of large-scale group exhibitions featuring invited and past resident artists under the overarching theme “Rolling Snowball” outside of Xiamen and outside China. A total of seventeen exhibitions have been realized in collaboration with cultural organizations in cities including Shanghai Expo Dutch Culture Center (2010), Guangzhou Redtory Design Factory (2012), Quanzhou Live Show Wonderland (2011/2013), Three Shadows Photography Art Centre Xiamen (2017), Datong Yugang Museum International Photography Festival (2017), Art Museum of Nanjing University of the Arts (2018) , Municipality of Djúpivogur, Iceland (2014 – 2024 every summer) and Powerlong Art Center, Xiamen (2022/2024).
