Nordic Culture Point: Nordic Art Lab - Open call

Open call for Nordic Art Lab II: Tape art workshop

Please forward this email to your relevant groups of art students/artists!
The open call is open for artists born 1987 or later!

Nordic Art Lab is a long-term project in which Nordic Culture Point invites artists to work on-site with various interdisciplinary art projects at our gallery at the Suomenlinna World Heritage Site in Helsinki, Finland.

In August 2022, we will arrange a workshop in collaborative public art in co-operation with the TAPE OVER collective from Berlin. The participants will work together for five days from 15 to 19 August creating a collaborative installation in the gallery space using duct tape in vibrant colours. Tape art is a relatively new art form which allows a both experimental and versatile way of working. The tape facilitates very detailed work, huge wall drawings, and site-specific installations. Since the artworks do not require any transport or toxic chemicals in their execution, the tape is also a good environmental choice. The artworks created in the Suomenlinna gallery will be on display until mid-September 2022.

This open call is looking for five participants. You can apply if you are an artist or art student born 1987 or later based in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, or Finland including Åland, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands. The application deadline is 30 April 2022.
We will cover all travel expenses, accommodation, and meals for participating artists. Every participant will be paid an exhibition fee of EUR 200. The workshop and supply of art materials is free for the chosen participants.

The workshop will be facilitated by TAPE OVER’s crew manager and artist Robert “Rob” König together with another team member. TAPE OVER is an internationally renowned tape art crew established in Berlin since 2011. Their roots are in Berlin’s subcultural electro scene and originally they started doing tape art in the city’s vibrant electro clubs. The TAPE OVER collective has produced numerous public art works all over the world.
