Laugardaginn 19. apríl næstkomandi kl. 16 opnar sýningin A. Object í Gallerí Úthverfu að viðstöddum sýningarstjóra og nokkrum af listafólkinu sem eiga verk á sýningunni. Í ár eru 40 ár liðin frá því fyrst var opnuð sýning á samtímalist í rýminu við Aðalstræti 22 á Ísafirði. Boðið verður uppá léttar veitingar og spjall.

„Þessi sýning snýst um skáldlega hlutinn og áþreifanlega ljóðið og ferðalagið þar á milli. Pappír kemur mikið við sögu á þessari sýningu, þar sem hann er sérlega hentugt miðlunartæki fyrir ljóðræna framsetningu. Upphafsneistinn að gerð sýningarinnar fólst í að kynna bækur og margfeldi, og það hefur ekki breyst, þó að lúmsk rannsókn á hlutkennd og ljóðrænu hafi síðar tekið yfir þennan upphaflega neista." — Joe Keys

Joe Keys (f. 1995, Newcastle, Bretlandi) útskrifaðist frá myndlistardeild Listaháskóla Íslands árið 2021. Hann hneigist til að vinna með teikningu, skúlptúr, ljóð og tengsl þeirra á miðla. Teikningarnar bera oft með sér skúlptúrrými og skúlptúrarnir eru settir upp eins og teikningar. Hann vinnur aðallega með fundið efni og afgangsefni. Síðan hann flutti til Íslands hefur Joe fundið fyrir miklum áhuga á prentuðu efni, listamannabókum og sögu þeirra hér á landi og víðar. Þetta hefur leitt hann útí að standa fyrir sýningum og útbúa fjölda rita um viðburði og uppákomur, svo sem Stations of the Cross, ELSE, George and Tammy, Explanation Park og margt fleira. Joe hefur tekið þátt í fjölda samsýninga og einkasýninga á Íslandi, Bretlandi, Grikklandi og Finnlandi svo eitthvað sé nefnt.

Sýningin er hluti af dagskrá þar sem haldið verður uppá 40 ár af samtímalist í Gallerí Úthverfu sem áður hýsti Slunkaríki. Aðrar sýningar á árinu eru m.a. sýning finnsku listamannanna Karoliina Hellberg og Josefina Nelimarkka sem opnar 17. júní í tengslum við tónlistarhátíðina ,,Við Djúpið“ og sumarsýning Roni Horn sem opnar 18. júlí. Á sama tíma verður einnig skipulögð sýning Unu B Magnúsdóttur og Loga Gunnarssonar í sal Myndlistarfélagsins á Ísafirði, Slunkaríki, sem nú er hluti af Edinborg menningarmiðstöð.

Afmælisdagskrá ársins lýkur með útgáfu bókar/bæklings þar sem starfsemi Úthverfu og Slunkaríkis undanfarna áratugi verður gerð skil í máli og myndum.

On Saturday, April 19th at 4 p.m., the exhibition A. Object will open at 4 pm in Gallerí Úthverfa / Outvert Art space in the presence of the curator and some of the participating. This year marks 40 years since the first exhibition of contemporary art was opened in the space at Aðalstræti 22 in Ísafjörður. Light refreshments will be served.

„This exhibition revolves around the poetic object and the concrete poem and the journey between the two. Paper is heavily featured in this exhibition, as it is a particularly suitable vehicle for the presentation of a poetic gesture. The initial spark to make this exhibition was to present books and multiples, and that is still true, though a subtle investigation into objecthood and poetry took that initial spark’s place.” – Joe Keys

Joe Keys (b. 1995, Newcastle, UK) graduated from the Fine Art department of Iceland University of the Arts in 2021. He tends to work with drawing, sculpture, poetry and the relationship between those mediums. The drawings often contemplate a sculptural space, and the sculptures are installed in the manner of drawing. He predominantly works with found and leftover material. Since living in Iceland, Joe has found a great interest in printed matter, artist’s books and their history in the country and further afield. This has led to curating exhibitions and producing many publications around events and happenings, such as Stations of the Cross, ELSE, George and Tammy, Explanation Park and many more. Joe has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Iceland, UK, Greece, and Finland to name just a few.

The exhibition is part of a program celebrating 40 years of contemporary art at the Gallerí Úthverfa / Outvert Art Space, which previously housed Slunkaríki. Other exhibitions this year include an exhibition by Finnish artists Karoliina Hellberg and Josefina Nelimarkka, which opens on June 17th in connection with the music festival "Við Djúpið" and a summer exhibition by Roni Horn, which opens on July 18th. At the same time, an exhibition by Una B Magnúsdóttir and Logi Gunnarsson will be organized in Slunkaríki, which is now part of the Edinburgh Cultural Centre.

The anniversary program of the year will conclude with the publication of a book/brochure detailing the activities of Úthverfa and Slunkaríki over the past decades in words and images.
