Verið velkomin á opnun einkasýningar Ívars Valgarðssonar, Úthaf, á Listasafni Reykjanesbæjar kl. 14:00, laugardaginn 18. janúar.

Ívar Valgarðsson (f. 1954) er listamaður sem hefur áhuga á eðli hlutanna. Hann notar ofur kunnuglegan og algengan efnivið til að búa til innsetningar sem fjalla á ljóðrænan hátt um hvernig skynjun skapar heiminn. Ívar hefur skapað nýtt verk fyrir sýninguna, Úthaf, innsetningu sem tekur heilt sýningarrými og samanstendur af 179 ljósmyndum og málverki. Úthaf fjallar um mikilfengleika hafsins sem umlykur Reykjanesbæ og einstaklingseðli upplifunar. Auk nýja verksins eru einnig verk sem spanna listamannsferil Ívars. Hér er því fágætt tækifæri til að kynna sér skarpskyggni listamannsins og trúfestu við ákveðna aðferðarfræði um árabil. Tími er ávallt til staðar í verkum hans. Sköpunarferlið endurspeglast oft í tímalegri upplifun áhorfenda. Þessi upplifun á tíma er mögulega mesti grundvallarþáttur náttúrunnar – og fyrir Ívari er náttúran forsenda alls.

Reykjanes Art Museum welcomes you to the opening of Ívar Valgarðsson‘s solo exhibition, Ocean, on January 18th at 2 pm.

Ívar Valgarðsson (b. 1954) is an artist who is intrigued by the nature of things. He often uses the familiar and commonplace to create installations that lyrically reflect upon how perception orders the world. For this exhibition he has created a new work, Ocean, a room-sized installation of 179 photographs and painting. Ocean is about the magnitude of the sea which surrounds Reykjanesbær and the individuality of experience. In addition to this new installation, the exhibition also presents work from across Ívar’s professional career. This provides a rare opportunity to consider the artist's acuity and dedication to a methodology over many years. Time is ever present in his work. The process of creation is often mirrored in the temporal experience of the viewer. This experience of time is perhaps the most elemental aspect of nature – and for Valgarðsson, nature is the basis of everything.
