The artists-in-residence of the SÍM Residency invite you to a one-evening pop-up exhibition at SÍM Hlöðuloftið on 27 August from 4 to 8 PM, presenting research and works-in-progress developed during their stay in Reykjavík.
Under the title Entangled with the Land, the exhibition reflects the many ways in which artistic practice can meet, respond to, and become intertwined with place. The participating artists, coming from diverse international backgrounds, have immersed themselves in the Icelandic landscape: its materiality, its mythologies, and its shifting ecologies. Their works explore how land is experienced not only as surface or resource, but as memory, as rhythm, as a living presence entangled with human gesture, perception, and imagination.
Through experiments in moving image, installation, sculpture, digital rendering, sound, and material transformation, the exhibition reveals layered encounters with environment and belonging. Here, land is not a backdrop but an active co-creator: shaping, resisting, and imprinting itself within artistic processes.
As a temporary convergence of practices, Entangled with the Land gestures towards the fragile yet generative connections that emerge in moments of residency. It opens a space where traces of forest, stone, water, and play intersect with questions of ecology, intimacy, and cultural narratives by inviting audiences to consider their own entanglement with the places they inhabit.
