About SÍM

The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists, commonly referred to as SÍM, was founded in 1982 and represents the interests of visual artists with around 950 members. Since its establishment, SÍM has fought for various rights and interests of visual artists.

The goal of SÍM is to improve the conditions and working environment of visual artists and protect their interests and rights. SÍM also handles various projects for public bodies, appoints representatives to committees and councils, and gives reviews on various issues.

Members either have individual membership to SÍM or through member associations of visual artists. Under the umbrella of SÍM, there are seven professional member associations.
