ABOUT SÍM

The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists (SÍM) was founded in 1982 and is an interest and trade union of visual artists, with about 950 members.

SÍM SERVICES

SÍM's goal is to improve the terms and working environment of visual artists, safeguard their interests and rights. SÍM handles various tasks for public bodies, nominates representatives to committees and councils and gives comments on various issues.

STUDIOS

SÍM rents out studios to members in premises at Seljavegur 32, at Hólmaslóð, on Héðinsgata and at Korpúlfsstaðir in Reykjavík, Auðbrekka 1, 2 and  14 in Kópavogur and Lyngás 7 in Garðabær, but the studios number up to 200.

The workshops are usually fully utilized, but members can go on a waiting list and join them if a studio becomes available.

SÍM RESIDENCY

SÍM Residency is an international residency for visual artists located in Reykjavík, Iceland. Having started in 2002 with a small one-bedroom apartment and studio in downtown Reykjavik, our residency now welcomes over 150 artists from all over the world on an annual basis.
