Budapest Gallery artist exchange program

The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists and The SÍM Residency in collaboration with Budapest History Museum – Budapest Gallery opens a cross-residency program for all members of SÍM. SÍM members can apply for a one-month partly granted residency program at Budapest Gallery in downtown Budapest, Hungary on 3-30th May 2024.

The residency program includes:

  • Free accommodation at the Budapest Gallery´s private, fully equipped 60-square-meter studio apartment with a rooftop terrace. Address: 1072 Budapest Klauzál tér 2.

  • Curatorial, mentorship assistance from the Budapest Gallery, and a possible one-week exhibition in the Budapest Gallery.

  • We highly recommend selected candidates to apply for Muggur travel grant and other local and European grant programs.

Not included in the residency program:

  • Working grant or stipend

  • Travel and mobility cost

  • Food, insurance, and work materials

Requirements for applicants, and applications:

  • Candidates must use the granted period of 3-30th May 2024 for the residency program. Candidates are not entitled to a shorter period.

  • The residency program is focused only on one artist to apply. Visiting family members or friends are not allowed to be hosted in the residency.

  • Candidates should send a single PDF file titled with the full artist's name including the artist's CV, art/research project description with a motivational reason, and 3 images. All applications should be in English.

  • After completing the residency program, the finalist will have to present a visual and research-based project statement.

  • In terms of strengthening the network, and embracing collaborations, selected artists for cross-residency will have to invite each other for a studio visit and introduce themselves to the local art scene. Therefore, the applicant from SÍM will have to meet artists from Hungary in Reykjavik in June 2024.

Artists' House Gjutars

SÍM - The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists, in collaboration with Gjutars Residency, announces an open call for a residency exchange in Vantaa, Finland June 1 - 30, 2024. The goal is to offer artists the opportunity to acquaint themselves with a new environment, form social connections, and try out new materials. Often, the residency artists can also arrange an exhibition related to the residency.

 

Included in the stay:

  • Accommodation in a fully equipped 15 m2 studio apartment.

  • 500.00 EUR grant from Vantaa.

  • We strongly recommend that artists apply for a Muggur residency grant and other local and European grants for the residency.

 

Not included in the stay:

  • Travel costs

  • Food, insurance, and material costs

Requirements for applicants and applications:

  • Applicants must stay in the apartment between 1 and 30 June 2024. Applicants are not entitled to a shorter period.

  • The studio exchange is limited to one artist. Visits by family members or friends during the stay are not allowed.

  • Applicants must send one PDF file with the artist's full name which includes a CV, project description, and letter of motivation, along with three photos. Applications must be in English.

  • At the end of the residency period, the participant must submit a visual report on the stay and/or research project.

  • To further strengthen networking and cooperation, the selected artists of both countries will invite each other to a studio visit and study art in the host country. An applicant from SÍM will therefore meet artists from Vantaa in Reykjavík in August 2024.
