Verið velkomin á sýningu Camillu Reuter og Valgerðar Ýrar Walderhaug, sem ber titilinn Euthymia, í Sím salnum.

Opnun er laugardaginn 10. desember kl 17-19.
Síðasti sýningardagur er 23. Desember.

Opnunartímar eru alla virka daga milli 12 og 16. Sím salurinn er staðsettur við Hafnarstræti 16, 101 Reykjavík.

Hugtakið euthymia er dregið af grísku orðunum „eu“ (vel) og „thymo“ (sál
eða tilfinning). Samkvæmt forngríska heimspekingnum Demokritos er
euthymia grundvöllur lífsmarkmiða mannsins sem næst þegar manneskja
er sátt við augnablikið. Í sálfræði vísar euthymia til jafnlyndis,
millibilsástands maníu og þunglyndis, sem er markmið meðferðar en þó
aðgreinanlegt frá andlegu ástandi heilbrigðs fólks.

Verkin á sýningunni nálgast Euthymiu sem andlegt ástand tímabundinnar
sáttar og ánægju af augnablikinu. Listakonurnar Valgerður og Camilla
nálgast báðar hugtakið með ólíkum fagurfræðilegum stílum sem bæta og
móta hvorn annan. Hugmyndinni Euthymia er lýst með fígúratífum og
abstrakt frásögnum í málverki og skúlptúr.
Camilla vinnur með olíuliti á striga þar sem hún sýnir mannslíkamann og persónur á berskjaldaðan en jafnframt kraftmikinn hátt. Valgerður sýnir tvívíð og þrívíð verk á mörkum málverks og skúlptúrs og notar til þess fjöldaframleidda og funda hluti úr
nærumhverfi sínu sem hún umbreytir með malerískum aðferðum. Úr verður innsetning þar sem marglaga efnislegar tilraunir og olíumálverk mynda saman harmónískt ástand milli langanna og eftirsjár. Samsetning lita og efna í sýningarrýminu býður áhorfendum upp á að upplifa ánægjustund og sátt við augnablikið.

ENGLISH
The term euthymia is derived from the Greek words "eu" (well) and "thymo" (soul or feeling). According to the ancient Greek philosopher Demokritos, euthymia is the basis of human life goals which are achieved when a person experiences contentment in the moment. In psychology, euthymia refers to equanimity, an intermediate state between mania and depression. This mood is the goal of psychological and medical intervention in patients, although it is distinguishable from the mental state of healthy people.
In the exhibition, the two artists approach Euthymia as a mental state of temporary harmony and inner serenity experienced through aesthetic contemplation. The idea of euthymia is depicted through figurative and abstract narratives in the form of painting and sculpture. The two artists’ personal yet compatible approaches complement each other, leading the visitor towards an experience of mental equilibrium and enjoyment. Different aesthetic styles come together in the space, building a narrative of spiritual ease.
Camilla Reuter works with oil colors on canvas in a manner which reveals the human body and people through intimate subjectivity.
Valgerður Ýr Walderhaug presents two and three-dimensional works on the border between painting and sculpture, using mass-produced and found objects from her local environment, which she transforms with painterly methods.
The result will be an installation where multi-layered material experiments and figurative oil paintings create a harmonious state between longing, desire and regret. The combination of colors, surfaces and materials in the exhibition space invites the audience to experience a moment of pleasure and harmony.
