GERÐUBERG CALLING
We are seeking creative collaborations on the theme Together

The world is changing and calls for different rituals and habits. How do we create new connections between people and how would it look like at the library? Do you have an idea?

Gerðuberg Calling in 2023 sets the focus on how we do things together. The library seeks creative collaborations to enrich its cultural program and gain new insights that support the library‘s future vision of a public place. This is an experimental project where we develop the library as a social space and a participative venue.

Cooperation
Reykjavík City Library in Gerðuberg offers a workspace for the selected candidate to work with us on the theme of together. A regular presence in Gerðuberg is expected. The cooperation includes workshops with the staff, engagement with the public and a closing event presenting the outcome of the cooperation.

Compensation
The library remunerates the selected candidate with 300.000 kr. The library covers material costs for up to 50.000 kr. The artist is free to seek additional funding.

Time Frame
Work period in Gerðuberg: 1st of April until 31st of May 2023.

Application
Send us your application with a description of a new project idea that you would like develop with the library. We are interested in a work in progress.
The application should include:
• A project description and how it relates to the theme: Together.
• How will you develop the project idea during the time at the library?
• How will you implement your outcome of the project in the library?
• Examples of previous work, if applicable.
• Other information, if the applicant wants to.

Evaluation Criteria
A selection committee evaluates the applications based on the following criteria:
• Aims of the project and how it relates to the theme: Together.
• Feasibility of the project within the environment of the library.
• Participative element of the project – can the users of the library take part?
• Added value of the project to the library as an innovative social space

TOGETHER:
"We need to connect with others for our own well-being. Connecting with others, counters feelings of loneliness that many of us experience in our everyday lives. By doing things together we can develop a greater compassion and an understanding of how we differ in our ideas on life and the ways we want to live it. There is no need to be afraid of differences. If we have the possibility to connect with others, democratic discussions can take place and we gain a better feeling for the society we live in. What kind of new habits and rituals would get us doing more things together in a way that connects us to the local community – get us to be together anew?"
