Berlin Residency

Guest apartment / studio in Friedrichshen, Berlin

Since 2010, SÍM has had a guest studio in Berlin for rent for SÍM members.

The idea is that Icelandic visual artists can stay abroad and work on their art in the same way that foreign artists come to Iceland in SÍM's guest studios.

The guest studio Askja is located on the fifth floor of an apartment building at Neue Bahnhofstrasse 27, in Friedrichshain in the east of Berlin, postal code D-10245 Berlin. In the apartment is one bedroom, kitchen, WC and a shower.

The Ostkreuz Train Station is just a five-minute walk away, while the Airport Express runs directly from Berlin Brandenburg ( BER ) to Ostkreuz.

The neighborhood and Berlin

Friedrichshain, which is in former East Berlin, is the closest neighborhood to Prenzlauer Berg, and Krautzberg is just across the river Spree. Friedrichshain is a lively district, home to many artists and designers and bustling with bars, cafes, restaurants and fun shops.

Grocery stores and cafes are nearby, as is a laundry cafe on the next street corner. Food and drink prices are generally much lower in this part of Berlin. The Boxhagener Platz market is within walking distance, but it is open on Saturdays and Sundays.
