Open every day 10 - 17. Mondays free The exhibition hall at Miklatun Park was inaugurated in 1973, and was soon named Kjarvalsstadir in honor of the painter Jóhannes S. Kjarval. Annually it hosts exhibitions of Icelandic and international art, with special emphasis on contemporary art. Exhibitions from the Kjarval Collection is always a feature in the schedule at Kjarvalsstadir.

More than 20 exhibitions have been held there every year on average since it opened in 1994. It is a private foundation, founded 1988.
